Jon joined Slape & Howard in 2013 after a stint in the California Penal League, where he assisted public defenders and inmates at Pelican Bay State Prison. Since then, he has won numerous cases and awards—and has also “damaged” five office chairs, with a mysterious exploding coffee pot remaining unmentioned.
Known for his tenacity, Jon excels at multitasking, often reading statutes while consulting clients and communicating with legislators about Kansas workers compensation law. In his role with the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association, he frequently lobbies in Topeka, testifies on behalf of injured workers, teaches case law at the Annual Kansas Workers Compensation Seminar, and contributes to the KTLA journal.
Jon’s greatest personal accomplishment, he says, was convincing his wife, a nurse practitioner, to move from Northern California to Kansas. He enjoys playing Dungeons & Dragons with his children, Liam and Riley—a skill he insists has real-world value. When not strategizing legal or tabletop battles, Jon can be found mountain biking, practicing basketball, or explaining why a great defense always beats a great offense.
