Phil joined Slape & Howard in 1998. He has handled thousands of cases, and regularly appears in court, arguing cases before the Appeals Board and Kansas Appellate Courts. Phil was one of four attorneys who drafted key legislative changes to Kansas workers compensation law that were passed and signed into law in 2024. His deep knowledge of workers compensation law makes him a go-to resource for complex cases.
Phil and Jon Voegeli relocated Slape & Howard to the Delano District in Wichita, transforming a former brewery into a legal fortress—complete with a bar area for meetings with attorneys, physicians, politicians, and clients. Phil believes creating influence and going the extra mile for clients is essential to achieving results.
Away from work, Phil enjoys time with his wife, Lisa, who is the firm’s office manager, and their son and daughter, Ryan and Malia. Phil graduated from Wichita East High School (1988), earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (1994), and spent a year in Seoul, South Korea, working at a world-class Samsung hotel. He earned his law degree from Washburn Law School (1998), where he was recognized as Student of the Year by the National Bankruptcy Institute. Phil joined Slape & Howard that same year and currently serves as a member for the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association, speaking regularly on the workers compensation issues.
